Introductory Teaching Certificate in Iyengar Yoga
Entry Requirements
- Three years regular weekly practice with an Iyengar Teacher who is a member of IYA(UK).
- Written recommendation from your regular teacher to confirm the above.
- Practice of the postures from Introductory Syllabus Level One and Level Two.
- Dedication to Iyengar Yoga.
- Attendance at a candidate selection day.
- Membership of IYA(UK).
- Annual Student Membership £13.50
- Registration fee of £32 if accepted on the course.
The Course
- 120 hours over two academic years (a minimum of 50 hours before Level One Assessment).
- Training Day usually 10am — 4.30pm one Sunday each month, occasionally Saturday.
- Maintain attendance at weekly classes, taught by a teacher of Junior
Intermediate status or above where possible.
Assessments
- There are two
assessments, one at the end of each year.
- You will need to pass Level One in
order to progress to Level Two.
- The Assessments consist of examination of
your own practice of the appropriate level asanas plus your ability to teach.
- A Moderator (Senior Teacher) and three Assessors (at least of Intermediate status) conduct your Assessment
- Level One Assessments take place in June / July
- Level Two Assessments take place in October
There are also two written assignments each year, marked by your trainer, and a Personal Questionnaire which must be
completed before the practical assessments. An Anatomy paper must be passed before the first practical Assessment.
Cost: £420 (w.e.f. 2007) per year (payable in 3 instalments of £140) plus annual membership of The Sarva IYI, £25. Please note exam fees are also payable each
year, currently £55 (Level 1) and £88 (Level 2).

Intermediate Junior Training Workshops
Saturdays, 10am - 4:30pm
The Workshops
These Workshops are for Introductory Teachers who wish to work towards their Intermediate Junior Teaching Certificates or Intermediate Junior Teachers who wish to work on the postures in the three syllabuses at this level
- we provide 36 hours over one academic year.
- Training Days as listed above.
- For any Iyengar Yoga Teachers who want to work on Intermediate Junior postures.
- Also working towards the assessments for those who want to gain their Intermediate Junior Teaching certificates.

Entry Requirements for Assessment
Assessments
- There are three
assessments, usually in March of each year. Each assessment must be at least six months apart and the first assesment must be at least 18 months after attaining the Introductory Teaching Certificate in Iyengar Yoga.
- You will need to pass Level One in
order to progress to Level Two and Level Two in order to progress to Level Three.
- The Assessments consist of examination of
your own practice of the appropriate level asanas plus your ability to teach.
- A Moderator (Senior Teacher) and two Assessors conduct your Assessment
There is a Personal Questionnaire which must be
completed before the practical assessments. A written paper must be passed before each practical Assessment.
Cost: £30 per session or £80 for each block of three. Please make your cheque payable to "Sheila Haswell Yoga".
